Rise of the Runelords
The Highborne are a political faction in the elven kingdom of Isandria focused maintaining the Hidden Kingdom’s isolation and elvish ethnic purity. They view King Thalion’s tolerance of human settlers within Isandria as an existential threat to the realm as an elvish-dominated state, and they continue to call for the expulsion of all humans from the forest. If this is not done, the Highborne fear the humans will soon outnumber the elves and push them out of their ancestral home. They also worry about the growing number of half-elves, an embarrassment that threatens to dilute the “purity” of the elves and their culture.
The Highborne count among their membership a number of influential nobles as well as key figures within the Harkeners, Isandria’s order of wizards and a traditional bastion of elvish culture. Most notably, the Highborne have the favor of Queen Tavara, who ensures that their voices are always heard in council—if not often listened to. They are opposed at court by the King’s supporters, known as the Stalwarts.
